What is the design of the Galaxy Z Flip?
The Galaxy Z Flip is a vertically foldable smartphone. Closer to the Motorola Razr clamshell smartphone, the flagship measures 87.4 x 73.6 x 15.4-17.3 mm when folded and 167.9 x 73.6 x 6.9-7.2 mm when fully unfolded. The screen is equipped with a central hinge (protected by an innovative system of fibers against the invasion of dust) which allows the smartphone to fold. The Infinity Flex screen has a Galaxy Note 10-style punch and thick borders.
The device hinge is able to lock in any position “like a laptop,” says Samsung. You can either lock the hinge at a 180-degree angle, to fully use the screen 6.7 inches like any other smartphone, or 90 degrees. The lower part of the smartphone is then horizontal. The lower part of the panel then acts as a support, ideal during a video call. No need to hold the smartphone at arm’s length in front of you. Samsung calls this functionality “Flex mode”.
Once unfolded, the foldable screen is not entirely flat. Like the Galaxy Fold before him, the Galaxy Z Flip is indeed marked by a fold mark at the place of the central hinge. “You may notice a little crease in the center of the main screen, it’s a natural feature of the screen,” says Samsung under the promotional videos for the Galaxy Z Flip.
