France wins the 2019 soccer robots World Cup

The competition takes place in three categories depending on the size of robots: children, adolescents, and adults. Several teams from the same country can participate in their robots. The Bordeaux team from Rhoban was the only one representing France in the “child jig” category. No other French team was competing in the other two categories.

The robots of the Rhoban team are the result of the work of the students and teacher-researchers of the computer research laboratory of the University of Bordeaux. This year, the competition took place from June 7 to July 7, 2019, in Sydney, Australia. The women’s world cup that crystallized all the attention took place in the same period. The two finals were also held the same day, Sunday, July 7th.

Ironically, the winning teams won the competition for the fourth time in a row. Inside the green rectangle, the rules governing the foot of robots are essentially the same as those of humans. The matches are nevertheless played with four small autonomous robots team in a green rectangle of 6 meters out of 9. In the final, the team of Rhoban won against the Chinese ZJU Dancer by a score of 5 goals to 1.
